Why are almost all the parts of the Adhan & Iqamah to be repeated twice?

Question:

My daughter asked me a question today and I could not answer it. She asked me why in the Adhan & Iiqamah why almost all the lines repeated back to back two times? Is there a significance to being said twice? Does it have some story behind why it is repeated as such?

Answer:

Imam Redha (a.s) was asked the same question, and he replied:

” The parts of Adhan and Iqamah (with the exception of the first Takbir of Adhan which is to get more attention) are to be announced two times so that:

1) they are repeated in the ears of those who hear them,
2) emphasizing them,
3) if one was headless of the first announcement, notice it in the second time,
4) Salaat was initially made two Rak’at, and so were the parts of the Adhan & Iqamah. The first Takbeer of Adhan is made four times because for the first announcement usually people are heedless, so it is made more to get their attention…” (Al-Faqih, vol.1 p.195)
