Some people throw pieces of hair and clothing in the Holy Shrines. Isn’t this disrespectful?

Question:

Some people go to the holy shrines and take pieces of hair and clothing for their children. Is there any significant hadith about this? Isn’t it disrespectful to throw pieces of hair in the holy shrines such as those of Hazrat Abbass (a.s) and Imam Husein (a.s).

Answer:

There is no such hadtih to support this kind of practice. It is purely culture for those who do this. It has nothing to do with Islam and the true faith in Islam. Instead of throwing things they should clean up the Holy Places using their children’s new clothing and make them wear it. May Allah (swt) help and guide the followers of Ahlul Bayt (a.s).
