I don’t know the number of fasts I need to make up, what do I do?

Question:

I did not keep a record of the fasts I need to make up from the previous Ramadan, and I fasted after Ramadan for some days, but its all so confusing to me so what should I do?

Answer:

You should estimate the number of fasts you missed and make up those fasts. If you cannot be sure of the number you can go with the smallest number you are sure of.

If you can, you must make them up before the next Ramadan comes around. If this is not possible, you can make them up later but you must pay fidyah for every day missed that you did not make up before the next Ramadan.

Fidyah is to feed a poor believer with 3/4 kg of common food e.g bread. You should contact your local scholar to calculate and organise this for you.
