Do I break fast with Sunni husband at sunset or nightfall?

Question:

My husband is Sunni and according to his Fiqh he can break his fast at sunset. He insists that I break my fast with him. What am I supposed to do?

Answer:

At the time of conflicting opinions and narrations the sound judgment is to refer to the Holy Qur’an where the time for breaking fast is clearly stated:

The Arabic term used in the above Ayah for ending the fast is ‘Layl’ لیل (nightfall). No Arab calls the civil sunset ‘Layl’ (night). Besides, for the one who fasted the whole day it is only wise to wait for another 10-15 minutes to ensure they have met their obligation before God.
